You took the reins of the Group in September 2023. What has changed since then?
Alexandre Barrière: Change takes time. We have already introduced more rigour, analysis, and precision, and a better use of data. We also tried to set up a new form of governance designed to serve the group rather than serving itself.
Joy Desseigne-Barrière: We identified some missing positions. For example, we hired a managing director, Grégory Rabuel, a secretary general, and a head of public affairs and real estate. We tried to strike a balance between promoting people already in the group and bringing in external profiles.
What are your medium-term goals?
JDB: One of our ambitions is to move even further upmarket. This means renovation projects, such as those we carried out at Ciro's and the Bar de la mer in Deauville, as well as a host of small details aimed at improving the customer experience.
AB: We also want to diversify our revenue streams. We are extremely dependent on the French market. Our aim is to open up internationally through hotels, casinos, and related acquisitions — such as what we have started with the Fouquet's brand, with a hotel in New York and two brasseries in the Emirates.
In the family history, is there a figure who inspires you?
AB: My mother. JDB: And our grandfather, Lucien. They were both leaders and visionaries. We want to be worthy of what they achieved and of their kindness.
Does leading a century-old group come with obligations?
AB: The group was founded in 1912. How many companies still belong to the family that created them? Our mission is to develop it and pass it on to the next generation.
