Nathalie Decoster — The Humanities

Throughout the autumn and with the Art Basel Paris fair as a particular highlight, the artist's sculptures will be taking over the intimate gardens and interiors of Maison Boissière. In her role as an explorer of the contours of the human condition, Nathalie Decoster delivers a powerfully contemporary message.

Since mastering bronze, which she sometimes combines with lighter stainless steel, gold leaf or aluminium, Nathalie Decoster has been pursuing her search for artistic wisdom for 30 years, never shying away from adding her own personal touch of humour. Equal parts free and intuitive, she has developed a stoic interpretation of our modernity through her creations — always philosophical, and sometimes mischievous for those who enjoy reading between the lines.

She shifts between the infinitely small and the infinitely large, as if tailored to the worlds for which it was intended. This is particularly true of a special commission for Louis Vuitton, as well as works on the "Between Man and Nature" theme, chosen to accompany the launch of a Guerlain fragrance.

To deliver her message, the artist uses geometric shapes — her now-renowned circles, but also cubes and other curves, depending on her inspiration — through which her Messenger travels, alone or with company.
